Technical Assistance for Strengthening the National Nature Protection System for Implementation of Natura 2000 Requirements

FIRST TRAINING MODULE – KIZILCAHAMAM, 11-13 OCTOBER 2016

The five modules training programme in the project started with the module on EU environmental legislation and nature conservation acquis in Kızılcahamam, on 11-13 October 2016. The main trainers were Mr. Petr Roth (former General Director of Nature Conservation in the Czech Republic), Mr. Stanislaw Tworek (Nature Conservation Institute of Krakow, Poland), Mr. Santiago Garcia (former responsible of Natura 2000 network in Navarra region, Spain), Mr. Gernant Magning (Key expert in the project) and Ms. Aylin Hasan (former head of Department of Natura 2000 in the Ministry of Environment of Bulgaria). During the training, the participants had the opportunity to gain knowledge about the general provisions in the Habitats and Birds Directives, the main steps in the selection and designation of Natura 2000 sites and to know about different case studies in the EU. The training finished with a module of “learning by do it” in which the trainees put in practice the acquired knowledge through a game aimed to select a network conservation areas reaching a complete representation of the main conservation features without compromising the economic development of the territory.
